  1. Enjoy the family gathering and if you know this is a serious stressor, please take adaptogenic herbs like Bliss and a double dose of methylated B complex to support your mind so that you can ward off the stress better!
  2. If you do not want to over eat, perhaps eat some foods before leaving for Thanksgiving dinner!
  3. What to do to prevent indigestion at the Thanksgiving table? Slow down. Make sure you chew, not and smile. People love to be listened to, and chewing gives you a chance to be quiet.
  4. Make sure you pick some protein and fiber as well as starches. I know the food will be very rich. Protein and fiber will slow down all the sugar excess from the festive dinner so that you blunt the sugar spike a little. Fiber is in plants that grow. So look for spinach, green beans, sweet potatoes, raw salad or coleslaw.
  5. Are you afraid of overeating? Pick foods with fiber. Satiety comes either from fat or from fiber – pick fiber!
  6. Worried there won’t be any healthy options? Bring a dish that you know has been prepared without lots of preservatives and unhealthy additives. For ideas check out Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes.
  7. The simple thing to cut down on the sugar spike is to avoid sugary drinks and alcohol if you can help it. Just ask for water or herbal tea.
  8. If you know you will be in trouble after Thanksgiving dinner, I have two very practical ideas for you: take digestive enzymes after the meal or drink aloe vera juice when you get back home – if you have the Nmx brand, the more the better.
  9. And remember, do NOT recline in bed for at least 3 hours after the dinner. If you can take a walk around the block (e.g. with your dog), even better. If you have to lie down, make sure you sleep on your left side that night, to prevent glaring heartburn. But if that comes anyway, run to the fridge to drink another few ounces of aloe vera juice.
  10. Keep raw ginger root in your freezer. This way, if you do not have anything else at hand for indigestion after the heavy Thanksgiving dinner, you can grate ginger with a microplane right into a cup of hot water to make a digestive tonic of ginger tea!
  11. If you have nothing at home, go for hot water and sip it for indigestion.
  12. Knowing you have the inside tricks, you can simply enjoy the company and the special festivity that comes with this unique evening!!!!
