Jump to recipe

Indian cuisine is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. The spicy food made of healthy ingredients and the specific tastes that cannot be compared to anything else are two of the most important factors that contribute to its popularity. This is the reason why we have decided to show you how to prepare a dish that is becoming a food trend around the globe – Mint Chutney.

What is chutney and how is it used?

In case you are not familiar with Indian cuisine, chutney represents a sauce based on different ingredients. People in different parts of India have created different chutneys and they all have one thing in common – they are a spicy condiment made of fruits or vegetables often with vinegar, spices, and sugar. Ground peanut garnish, tomato relish, cucumber and mint dip – these are just some of the varieties of chutney used today. Some of the most used spices in chutneys are coriander, fenugreek, asafetida, and cumin.

There are many different ways in which you can use chutneys. For instance, some people use them in sandwiches for better flavor. Others use them with curries.

Health benefits of mint

Mint is an herb best known for its positive effects on our digestive health. Some of the cases where mint can help are an upset stomach, abdominal pain, indigestion, and cramps. Some studies suggest that mint can help people dealing with irritable bowel syndrome too. The only time not to use it is for GERD/heartburn. Mint relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter. Those suffering from heartburn know that this is not a good thing!!

Mint can help soothe a headache and muscle pain and ache. Try it if your muscles are stiff in the morning or sore after exercising. Mint can also help decrease stress and breathe more easily due to its decongestant properties.

Health benefits of lemon juice

Our mint chutney recipe also contains lemon juice and we have included this ingredient not only because of the great refreshing taste but also for the health benefits. First and foremost, lemon juice is a strong natural antioxidant, which means that it fights stress, toxins, and other issues caused by free radicals.

Furthermore, lemon juice is an efficient detoxifying agent. In other words, it helps the gallbladder, liver, and kidneys flush toxins. Finally, lemon juice keeps the heart safe normalizes pH, supports weight loss and enhances digestion.

How to get the most juice content from a lemon

It seems that there are a few techniques that can help you maximize the yield when juicing a lemon. For instance, you can use a reamer. Some people say that rolling the lemon against the countertop can help too. In the end, take a fork and twist the citrus part around with it.  If the lemon skin becomes a little dry, you can throw it into a pot with hot water for a few minutes. After that, it will be much easier to slice or squeeze it!
