I just had a chiropractic adjustment with my favorite Dr. Margaret Winters today from www.greatriverchiro.com and noticed a bright green smoothie in a mason jar on her counter top. It looked so fresh, creamy and delicious. Of course, I asked her about the ingredients! This is a lovely one that reminds me of a delicious smoothie I used to make. We did not discuss the amounts, and I imagine it is a flexible recipe, so let’s assume you use equal parts of each ingredient and then taste it to see how you like it.

What I love about these kind of smoothies is how flexible you can be. If you’re someone who’s not a big fan of kale you can substitute another green leafy vegetable like spinach. You can also add additional fruits to give it more flavor or make it sweeter.

Another great way to amp up this green smoothie recipe, and keep your fuller longer, is to add a scoop or two of protein powder. My personal favorite (as well as many of patients) is PurePea™ Vanilla Protein Powder from Emerson Ecologics.

Why we love PurePea™ Protein in our Green Smoothie…

PurePea™ is a natural pea protein isolate, offering a high level of functionality and nutritional benefits. It is produced with a natural fermentation process which uses no chemical solvents. The raw materials, North American grown yellow peas, are not genetically modified (non-GMO). It is ideal for those on a dairy-free diet, and are looking for a vegetarian protein with high digestibility. It has an excellent array of amino acids, including high levels of BCAAs (branched chain amino acids). PurePea’s amino acid profile is similar to whey protein and is particularly high in arginine, leucine and lysine. So we love it because it is silky and smooth like whey but is pea protein, so it is gluten free, dairy free, and additionally has vanilla and stevia. It is sweet, so it will sweeten the berries or pineapple and blueberries.
